Seat sharing and fee in 2008 to remain same as 2007.

In a development that should bring cheer to the student community, the seat sharing ratio and fee structure for admission to medical and dental courses in 2008-09 will be the same as last year's.

The seat sharing ratio for medical courses between the government and managements will be 40:60. In other words, 40 per cent of seats in private colleges will be filled by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the nodal agency to conduct CET-2008. Comed-K, will take care of the remaining numbers.

For dental courses, the seat sharing ratio is 35:65. The medical seats to be filled by the KEA will have a uniform fee of Rs 35,000.

The management quota seats for Comed-K will be divided into three categories – 40 per cent seats will be filled through Comed-K. Colleges cannot charge more than Rs 3.25 lakh as tuition fee.

A share of 15 per cent will be allotted under NRI quota and five per cent under institution discretionary quota.

For dental courses, the seat sharing ratio will be 35:65 (35 per cent of total intake in each private college to be filled by KEA, the remaining under Comed-K). All seats filled through the KEA will have a uniform fee of Rs 25,000. Management quota seats will be divided into three categories – 45 per cent seats will be filled through Comed-K, and colleges cannot charge more than Rs 2.3 lakh as tuition fee. NRI quota will get a 15 per cent share while the institution discretionary quota gets five per cent.

For minority medical and dental institutes, the seat sharing ratio is 25:75. The fee structure be same as in non-minority colleges.
